Position Summary
This opportunity with STERIS is located in Point Richmond, CA and is part of the Surgical Operating Room Integration (ORI) software team. The Lead Software Developer is responsible for high quality technology solutions that address business needs by developing applications within the mature technology and leading edge technology environments.  Utilizes mature and leading edge technology with a focus on Ruby and Linux programming methodologies and languages. Adheres to coding standards, procedures and techniques and contributes to the technical code documentation.  Leads, designs and implements technology solutions for applications, interfaces and data conversions.  Reviews the Software Change Requests, evaluates and determines a solution.

Duties
•    Works with Software Development, Service, and New Product Development teams to understand enhancements, improvements and bug fixes with their implication to the platform/technology/application under responsibility.  

•    Establishes and maintains working relationships with development team and functional analysts aligned to platform, technology and/or application.

•    Reviews and signs off on code.

•    Prioritizes, manages and participates in the development and implementation of enhancements and/or changes.

•    Works with internal and external services vendors to ensure superior service delivery.

•    Defines Service Level Agreement’s (SLAs) in conjunction with the IT and BPO and negotiates support commitments for existing products.

•    Oversees unit and system testing for platform, technology and application.

•    Leads project status reporting for assigned area.

•    Identifies and mitigates risks involved in delivering the solution on time.

•    Participates in and provides support for cross technology process improvement initiatives. 

•    Provides direction to individual and team workloads to ensure delivery to project milestones. 

•    Promotes consistent performance measurement and skill development of junior team members.

•    Provides input to staffing plans at the project-level to identify key/required skills.

•    Regularly conducts information sharing sessions with impacted teams across business or technology organizations to promote the use of knowledge management processes and tools.

•    Shares and leverages successful products, processes and best practices across technology.

•    Contributes to continuous improvement by leveraging quality improvement methodologies.

•    Creates development guidelines, standards, policies and procedures and disseminates to team.

•    Ensures documentation is captured in a document management system and publicizes deliverable locations to ensure communication and access.

 
Required Experience
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field. Minimum 8 years of full-time systems and applications development including systems/application analysis and design experience.

•    In lieu of degree minimum 15 years of software development experience.

•    A minimum of 2 years of experience developing software on Linux using Ruby. 

•    Expertise in an agile environment using SCRUM

•    Experience in implementing quality guidelines, standards and procedures.

•    Knowledge of project management tools methodologies and tools.

•    Experience in a regulated industry highly preferred.
