Position Summary
This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the centralized North American accounts receivable function.  Responsible for ensuring that timely Customer invoicing and cash application occurs. Provides supervision, direction, training, guidance, and instruction to direct reports and other personnel both within and outside of the department. The Accounts Receivable Manager will regularly interact with the credit, treasury operations and customer service departments. This position will have 4 direct and 7 indirect reports.
Duties

Accounts Receivable – 90%

Oversee the North American centralized accounts receivable department functions including automated invoicing, manual billing, and cash application while ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately. Approve account reconciliations and analyze reconciliation items to gain understanding of root cause.  Develop action plans to resolve discrepancies and implement process improvements.
Supervise four direct reports and seven indirect reports in accounts receivable.  Responsibilities include performance reviews, coaching, training, and monitoring quality and efficiencies in the department.  
Develop policies, procedures, operational controls and standards. Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Accounts Receivable department and review regularly with the team. 
Prepare metrics and analyze data to ensure resources are properly allocated to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.  
Timely prepare quarterly bad debt reserve roll forward and annual summary for 10-K. 
Act as primary liaison between STERIS and commercial banks regarding accounts receivable services and activities. Recommend and implement improvements to current accounts receivable processes.  Take ownership and meet all assigned deadlines for special projects and business initiatives.
Prepare and distribute global DSO report each month.
Continually look for opportunities to automate AR functions such as invoicing and payment application so that team members can work on more value-add job functions.
Responsible for annual general reserve % calculation and distribution.
Stay updated on industry and legislative changes and accounts receivable technology advancements. 
Oversee Business Process Ownership (BPO) requirements for accounts receivable function.

Education Degree
Bachelor’s DegreeRequired Experience
In lieu of degree:

10 years of experience in accounts receivable, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
Accredited Receivables Manager (ARM) certification a plus.

With degree:

5 years of experience in accounts receivable, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
Accredited Receivables Manager (ARM) certification a plus.

Skills

Good oral and written communication skills.
Sound analytical skills and a high degree of initiative.
Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Oracle and accounts receivable products.
Prior supervisory experience.    
Project management experience a plus.
Experience implementing Lean initiatives a plus.
Experience implementing automated billing and cash application tools a plus.
Experience with unclaimed property escheatment process a plus.
