Position Summary
The Team Leader organises and supervises a team of Technologists and Assistants within the Laboratory, providing support to the Production Manager in the smooth daily running of the Laboratory. It will be the duty of the Team Leaders to lead, train and motivate their team members; communicating pertinent information, monitoring issues, assessing performance and ensuring direct reports achieve daily targets. The Team Leader will have direct line management responsibility for a defined number of technologists and/or assistants.

•To ensure all laboratory work is carried out in compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 including section 13 “Duties of employees”, Health and Safety policies and all relevant statutory provisions in conjunction with the laboratory staff and under the direction of the laboratory senior management team.

•Continuously monitor and audit work areas for unsafe conditions and take immediate action to correct unsafe conditions – ensuring all instances are recorded through the Navigator system.

•Lead as an example, driving safety standards and cultural improvement throughout the Lab.

•Be a Health and Safety leader, championing Health and Safety at the Laboratory through the reinforcement of safe behaviour and compliance of team members, developing safety standards, and making cultural improvements.

•Record and monitor consumable stocks relating to the Laboratory to ensure adequate stocks of supplies are maintained at all times.

•Ensure that warehouse and lab space is utilised to maximum efficiency.



•Conduct disciplinary meetings, investigations and grievance meetings as required.

•Compose and manage long term development plans for all direct reports.

•Complete annual and quarterly appraisals with all direct reports.

•Ensuring all direct reports are fully trained as required by their individual job specifications and that all training records are maintained and kept up to date.

•Actively coach, mentor and develop direct reports; supporting them to successfully achieve the demands of their own roles and responsibilities whilst achieving agreed targets.

•To ensure all return to work and absence review meetings are completed.

•Play an active role in the OTOG initiative; actively demonstrating the philosophy and participating in associated scheduled events.

•To help create and maintain a proactive culture where team members are empowered to deliver the company values of ACHIEVEMENT, INNOVATION, INTEGRITY and ACCOUNTABILITY.

•To ensure all work in the laboratory is carried out in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice, ISO13485 (Current Revision), ISO17025 (Current Revision) accreditation requirements, internal procedures and in conjunction with the laboratory staff and under the direction of the laboratory senior management team.

•Ensure self and all direct reports understand and always abide by the STERIS Quality Management System and the incorporated procedures, in turn maintaining all recognised quality standards.

•To ensure the Laboratory unit is maintained in a clean and orderly condition and general house keeping is completed as per relevant quality documentation.

•Where non-conformances or customer complaints occur; support the Quality team in undertaking full investigations and providing articulate responses to issues via Trackwise, also taking ownership for associated corrective actions.

•Maintain accurate and sufficiently detailed records of all tests performed. Ensuring all documentation meets Good Document Practice (GDP)

•Ensure that validations, calibration and preventative maintenance are carried out on all laboratory processes and equipment as required.

•Ensure test equipment and in instrumentation is maintained in good working order.

•Regularly perform reviews of GLP documentation generated in the Laboratory. This documentation includes, but is not limited to, protocols, reports, procedures, policies, test reports, logbooks and internal records.

•Actively lead, organise and coach the workforce to achieve the production targets set by the daily production schedule.

•Work to ensure people and resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet delivery requirements while achieving quality and safety standards.

•Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the production line, resolving the queries of the laboratory staff where required.

•Plan, develop and anticipate future challenges, providing solutions as needed to meet production timelines.

•Lead communication at the daily PIT meeting, creating the agenda, ensuring the attendance of all relevant personnel, that the team are aware of day-to-day targets and responsibilities and that all SQDC board graphics are kept up to date.

•Maintain a visible and active presence on the shop floor.

•Act as an ambassador for Lean manufacturing – championing site 5S initiatives, organising and leading kaizen events, and supporting the activity of the Process and CI Supervisor.

•To perform microbiological testing techniques.

•To take a lead in the approval of Customer test paperwork.

•Take direct responsibility for the training needs of all direct reports ensuring all training documentation is maintained and the training matrix kept up to date.

•Provide feedback weekly to production manager consisting of production figures, performance, recognised issues and suggested improvements.

•Undertake any other duties as directed by Laboratory or Production Manager.

•Undergo internal and external training as required.

•Deputise as required for the Production Manager

•To deal with all organisational, customer and internal parties’ information with strict confidentiality and in a professional manner.
Education Degree
Bachelor’s DegreeRequired Experience
