This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for Associate Mechanical Engineer to be based out of Louisiana at our Client Jobsite in Lake Charles. WSP, an award‑winning and innovative multi‑disciplinary engineering consulting firm, works closely with utilities, developers and owners from around the world on a variety of challenging engineering projects with a focus on efficient and sustainable high performance designs. This role is within WSP’s Energy Business line and will support all types of Energy projects including renewable energy (wind, solar and energy storage), industrial processes and material handling and underground energy storage.  At WSP, we are driven by inspiring the right people to be part of our future-focused business objectives. Provides support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in the public and private sector.  Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems, equipment and processes.  Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned installation, construction, and operation specifications. 
Your Impact

Design of Mechanical projects involving steel and/or concrete as part of a larger multi-discipline teams, primarily Energy/Industry Projects associated with Material Handling and conveyor systems. 
Help Preparation of project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
Preliminary and detailed mechanical/civil/structural design of conveyors, supports, foundations, gantry and other structures.  
Help develop quantity take-offs, engineering cost estimates for Energy and Industry projects. 
Liaison between the client team at site and the WSP engineering team in various offices.  
Meet with clients, prepare deliverables, network with Client for Business Development.
Work with the Office Manager and contribute to the overall business development of the jobsite.
Help in preparation of technical reports/drawings/specifications.
Perform safety inspections and help prepare reports in conformance with state or federal regulatory guidelines.
Help with the design calculations, modeling studies, drawings, reports, and project standards and specifications.
The candidate must be willing to participate in domestic and international travel, when necessary.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
1 – 3 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical, structural or civil design experience. 
Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification.
Knowledge with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
Knowledge of relevant mechanical, structural, and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. 
Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of buildings, facilities, or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
Identifying and addressing obsolescence issues with existing equipment.
Creating, maintaining, and updating equipment files and drawings using AUTOCAD and other software packages.
Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to obtain PE License within 1 to 2 years.
Masters Degree in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering.
Working knowledge and experience with material handling facilities.
Member and active participant in industry organizations.
10/40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
Local Safety Area Council Training.
TWIC Card Credentials.                              #LI-PJ1
