Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

This position is best suited for an engineer who is seeking an opportunity to work within a team-focused local office, with work assignments beyond the local office inside a well-organized, world-wide engineering firm. Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assist with laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, selecting appropriate materials to ensure durability, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
Intermediate skills in utilizing computer software tools and applications to solve complex engineering problems
Complete work on bridge analysis and design problems using software such as, MDX, LeapBridge, LARSA, Microstation
Ability to utilize different codes and guides, such as AASHTO Bridge Design Specification, DOT manuals, AASHTO NSBA etc.
Demonstrates commitment to high quality for our deliverables and following Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures used for Structural Plans and Calculations
Contributes to preparation of project design proposals that are submitted to clients.
Committed to development of good presentation skills
Proposes creative solutions to complex problems as part of a team
Provides guidance to entry-level engineers
Who You Are
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
Engineer in Training Certification.
Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
Knowledge with process and concepts for sustainability, and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Certified Bridge Inspection certificate.
