This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Civil Engineering Director for our Northern California Transportation Business Line. This position can be based out of any of our Northern California Offices.  Be involved in projects with our Northern California Transportation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides leadership within a sector of organization to ensure civil engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards for design, safety, and functionality.  Responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing pragmatic direction to address current and future challenges in a rapidly-changing and complex business climate.
Your Impact

Lead and manage teams to deliver high-quality designs and deliverables for our clients.
Responsible for coordination with other design disciplines, including drainage, structures, environmental, traffic, electrical, utilities and right of way to drive creative and effective solutions.
Deliver design documentation at all phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement,construction, and operation.
With autonomy and independent judgement, lead and develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports.
Guide and mentor engineering and technical staff to achieve excellence.
Oversee, lead, produce, and check civil engineering designs for roadway and transit projects. Anticipated to include geometrics, plan and profile, super-elevation, signing, striping, ADA accessibility, staging, contour grading, site work, and underground utilities for local agencies and Caltrans projects.
Ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
Create resource and fee estimates and monitor performance.
Lead and attend meetings with clients, stakeholders, and internal staff to effectively communicate technical and non-technical project elements.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.
California Professional Engineer license required.
Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
Strong working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits. 
Advanced proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.
Knowledge and understanding of AASHTO Highway Design Guide, California MUTCD, Greenbook / APWA standards, and other related standards.
Experience on Bay Area Rapid Transit or similar transit agency projects.
