This Opportunity
Become a member of our Advisory Services/Communications & Public Involvement Team and be a part of a growing organization of professionals. WSP’s Communications and Public Involvement Practice is seeking a Communications/Outreach Manager in our Salt Lake City, UT office.
WSP has an immediate opportunity for an outreach and communications specialist to work in our Salt Lake City office. This position will play a key supporting role be an essential member with a team of communications and outreach professionals, and will primarily assist with outreach activities for transportation projects in the Southwest Mountain district. Who We Are Looking For:
The best candidate will be an experienced self-starter with the motivation and practice of simultaneously working on multiple and dynamic projects. This requires self-accountability including time management, excellent organization skills, maximizing of resources, and being results driven and proactive with challenging environments. Attention to detail, superior writing and communication skills, ability to work with strict outreach timelines are key for this position. This position also includes working with a diverse group of people, including clients, agency partners, community groups, members of the public, and the internal project team.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Leads and delivers communications and outreach tasks and functions on assigned projects. This can include both the management of, as well as coordination and delivery of materials, meetings and schedules, content and other communications tasks. 
Ability to coordinate and function in a variety of settings/meetings, including public events, working groups and communications efforts.
Essential member of and supports a Salt Lake City-based team to successfully deliver client objectives and outreach goals including the development and distribution of content and communications materials for water, transportation, environment and other business lines. 
Supports a project team, or teams, in all communications and outreach efforts. This may include, but not be limited to, monitor and respond to public hotlines and emails accounts, maintains stakeholder database and lead stakeholder issues identification, support day-to-day operations of several public involvement projects, assist in facilitating and organizing virtual and in-person open houses, workshops, public hearings, neighborhood meetings, workshops and other public events.
Support and coordinate the creation, editing and delivery of public involvement materials. 
Supports, monitors and meets the scheduling and production deadlines of internal and external client requests for communications materials and distribution channels.
Prepares core content for, and works with a production team to produce, talking points, multi-media presentations, newsletters, public exhibits, display boards, meeting summaries and documentation.
Supports managing the translation of content and materials into multiple languages.
Supports scheduling and production deadlines to meet internal and external client requests and deadlines.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Planning, Government Relations, or related field.
7+ years of experience in communications and/or outreach with infrastructure, transportation or other complex projects.
Superior command of the English language, with excellent written/oral communication and proofing skills. Experience with writing for multiple audiences and presenting technical concepts in a clear and concise structure.
Experience with the development and implementation of public outreach and or communications plans.
Attention to detail and prior experience with quality assurance/quality control.
Experience with scheduling and meeting internal/external deliverable deadlines with multiple groups and internal/external client contacts.
Familiarity with the coordination of owned, earned and paid media.
Experience with project coordination and client communications/relations.
Comfortable with controversial public opinions and fluctuations in project priorities. Adaptable to a changing environment with various deadlines.
Outstanding interpersonal communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels within an organization and on a project level.
Excellent organizational skills and experience coordinating with staff and subcontractors.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. 
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. 

Desired Qualifications:

Experience overseeing subcontractors and accompanying supporting tasks, including task orders, scope development and management, as well as monitoring contract deliverables, deadlines and budgets.
Experience with environmental planning protocols, NEPA/CEQA/SEPA process, public meetings and working groups, and scheduling with transportation, infrastructure or other public projects.
Experience with public information procedures, including NEPA/CEQA/SEPA protocols and during the construction of infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of trafficking/scheduling and/or production management. 
Experience with project-based work and/or working environment.
Knowledge and experience with social media.
Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
Training/certificates in meeting facilitation, public relations and/or public involvement (examples: Public Relations Society of America, International Association of Public Participation)
