This Opportunity
tk1sc, a WSP USA company, is initiating a search for a Full-time Director, Commissioning  for our Southern California tk1sc offices. 
The tk1sc Director – Commissioning has responsibility for assisting the department Principal in the management of multiple commissioning projects.  This individual shall provide and participate in decision making for all project-related issues of mid-size or higher in revenue earnings as well as possess a full understanding of the client’s project requirements.  This position has a high level of responsibility of interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating multiple commissioning projects of mid-size or larger.  The Director – Commissioning plans, develops, coordinates, directly in mid-size and larger projects in scope and level of importance.  This individual engages in all aspects of the mid to high level complex projects, providing leadership and decision-making when required and has an advanced knowledge of the technical expertise required to implement the particulars of the project.  Strong contract administration skills are a must.
Your Impact

Comprehensive knowledge of own discipline/department for Medium to Large Fee Projects or Mid to High-Level complexity projects.
Actively participates in problem solving and making decisions on both a project and discipline specific level. 
Performs coordination at a higher level by reviewing drawings supplied by vendors, other team engineers, and the architects.
Ability to gather appropriate resources in order to solve problems.
Customarily and regularly directs the work of two or more other employees and exercises independent judgment and discretion in supervision.
Formally train multiple direct reports in a supervisory role.
Supports in development and execution of department specific training programs
Actively monitors and evaluates appropriate team specific staffing resource allocations to meet business needs.

Ability to balance creative thinking and innovation with project budgets and schedule constraints.

Significant experience with monitoring and successfully managing project costs versus budget for discipline and project while understanding the firm’s financial system.
 Independently and actively builds relationships with new and existing clients that develops small amounts of profitable new business.
Develops detailed project specifications for the Commissioning of including but not limited to MEP equipment and systems
Performs detailed design reviews of MEP design documents.
Prepares pre-functional and functional test procedures including but not limited to MEP equipment and systems.
Assists with coordination and management of project timelines and milestones.
Performs jobsite observations verifying installations, reviewing project documentation, field testing, developing, and managing project documents and reports for MEP equipment and systems.  

 

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Minimum 10 years’ experience in the Commissioning discipline.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with department principal, clients and project team
Significant experience and knowledge of the commissioning process as it relates to ASHRAE Guideline 0, LEED, Title 24 Part 6 (California Energy Code) and Part 11 (CalGreen)
Relevant technical expertise in field testing of major and minor building systems
 Must have completed a minimum of 10 projects (100,000 s.f. per project) and act as the lead throughout a minimum of 10 or more of the following Cx activities: pre-design, design, construction, TAB verification, functional performance testing, final report.  
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software programs including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel
Proficiency with Bluebeam
Proficiency with cloud-based Commissioning Software
Basic ability to understand and recognize design problems.
Effective communication skills with a team-oriented attitude.
Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

Commissioning certification from either the Building Commissioning Association (BCA) or AABC Commissioning Group (ACG)
LEED certification 
Proven ability to understand and recognize complex design problems.
Effective communication skills with a team-oriented attitude.
Ability to work well under pressure and provide solutions.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Knowledge of Commissioning and related California Building Codes
 Knowledge of Green Building practices and LEED Rating Systems
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
