This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Environmental Construction Manager with experience as an owners representative for the construction phase of a remediation project in Mobile, Alabama.  The following locations will also be considered: central Alabama and Florida. The right candidate will have strong communication skills and be able to communicate with the client, remediation subject matter experts, external stakeholders (e.g., regulators), and site personnel including the owner ‘s appointed contractors and sub-contractors.

Your Impact

Construction Management

Coordinate and supervise site remedial construction and monitoring/ sampling activities with the owner, owner’s appointed contractor, and subcontractors.
Represent or support the owner on site/ as needed with additional stakeholders.
Problem solve site issues with the owner’s appointed contractor minimizing associated delays.
Ensure quality and accuracy of work performed/ delivered (i.e., perform daily inspections and ensure project deliverables adhere to the project specifications).
Ensure work complies with all applicable permits and regulatory requirements.
Identify potential cost savings and streamlined field methodologies through value engineering and communications with the owner, owner’s appointed contractor, and remediation subject matter experts.


Communicate daily with the owner and owner’s appointed contractor. 
Identify, communicate, and monitor onsite project risks.
Follow-up internally to discuss timelines, schedule, and budgets.

Health and Safety

Ensure the owner’s appointed contractor implements their Health and Safety Program.
Actively engage in daily kick off meeting and responsible for a weekly inspection on site and to make sure people are reporting learnings.
Ensure proper care, handling, storage, and disposal of samples and products in accordance with laboratory and industry control and practices. 
Identify and reporting potential and existing site hazards, incidents, potential Fatal Risk Controls, and potentially Significant Injuries and Fatalities.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Work with and support other WSP employees in the field or office.
If necessary, provide guidance/mentorship to entry level WSP employees.


Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or closely related technical discipline.
12+ years of experience working as an environmental professional implementing the construction phase for industrial remediation sites.
Working knowledge and experience with State and Federal protection regulations, guidelines, and consulting processes pertaining to the environmental practice position.
Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting agencies.
Project management experience with small to mid-level projects where subcontracts are administered.
Understanding of operational resources and efficiencies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
Knowledge of construction safety laws and regulations in applicable jurisdictions and terms and conditions of contracts. Safety certification preferred.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. 
This role may be subject to a drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. 

Preferred Qualifications:

40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
Certified Construction Manager or Professional Engineer Licensure is preferred.
Experience managing projects with a guaranteed maximum price or not-to-exceed clause.
Experience as an owners representative.
Experience working on sites with radioactive material. #LI-SV1
