This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Environmental Scientist for our Minneapolis, MN office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. As an environmental scientist with WSP, you will grow your career on a variety of project types. Our clients span a wide range of industries, including industrial/commercial, renewable energy, petroleum, transportation, , mining, and local government agencies. You will be involved in a variety of projects from long-term endeavors with established project teams, to short-term, quick-turn projects with self-driven groups and individuals. Your Impact

Conduct desktop and field environmental due diligence assessments of industrial and commercial facilities, roadway corridors, and vacant properties, including Phase I environmental site assessments.
Assist with regulatory research for environmental compliance projects.
Synthesize large amounts of information contained in regulatory files, environmental permits, and other environmental documentation.
Collect and document field data and observations in a clear and organized manner utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and workspace monitoring equipment.
Assist in the collection of environmental samples (soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor).
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret field and analytical data obtained during field investigations.
Evaluate findings, make recommendations, and prepare written and verbal reports. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations.  
Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, field/work site notes, and software.
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field work permitting.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s of Science degree in environmental science, environmental studies, environmental policy, engineering, earth science, biological science or related discipline.
1 to 3 years of experience working as an environmental scientist, due-diligence experience a plus.
Must have strong analytical skills and be able to solve problems independently, using knowledge gained from increasing experience. 
Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
Travel up to 30% of the time. Must be willing to make trips on short notice, including to local sites, and travel via air or land. When overnight travel is required, it is typically 1 to 3 nights per trip.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
Analytical skills, and experience with research techniques, local/regional ecology and habitats, and applicable species/discipline required.
Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. 
Participation in an OSHA-mandated medical surveillance program will be required, and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites. Applicants must be able to wear a full-face respirator.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience conducting Phase I environmental site assessments following ASTM International Standard E 1527-13 and ASTM Rural Standard E 2247-16.
OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training, DOT Training, CPR and First Aid Training, and other related environmental certifications.  
Proficiency in ArcGIS software.
