WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Environmental Scientist to support Pacific Northwest area projects from our Vancouver, WA or Portland, OR offices. Be involved in projects with our Environmental Planning and Natural Resources Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides technical assistance for the collection, identification, and compiling of data concerning a variety of biological and ecological systems. Provides support to technical staff and project managers for environmental work and permitting projects. Tasks may include assisting with the identification of wetlands, streams, riparian ecosystems, wildlife habitat and other natural resources. Generates accurate and concise documentation of natural resources within established project areas, and applying and integrating the science of the interactions between the physical, chemical, and biological components of the environment to solve environmental challenges. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Work as part of a field crew conducting field surveys for vegetation, wildlife, wildlife habitat, and riverine features in the Pacific Northwest.
Assist with wetland delineations, prepare wetland reports and develop mitigation plans.
Prepare NEPA/SEPA documentation.
Prepare federal, state, local permit applications and supporting materials.
Conduct ESA compliance analysis and Biological Assessment preparation.
Perform routine agency coordination during permitting process.
GIS mapping and data analysis.
Assist with business development for environmental services.
Who You Are
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
3 to 5 years of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and/or construction monitoring.
Wetland Delineation/Wetland Permitting experience in a previous role required.
Knowledge of local plant, fish and/or wildlife species and their habitat requirements.
Ability to research and prepare reports on environmental disciplines, regulations, and policies (NEPA/SEPA and ESA documentation).
Experience interpreting federal, state, and local land use and environmental permitting code regulations and processes.
Ability to communicate professionally and work collaboratively with regulatory agency staff, co-workers, management, clients and the public.
Strong personal organization skills, including the ability to deliver work products for multiple projects on time.
Proficiency with GPS equipment and ArcGis software.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
Master’s Degree in related discipline (optional +1 year professional experience in environmental science and project management including delineation of wetlands, plant, fish, and/or wildlife surveying and monitoring, and environmental permitting)
