tk1sc, a WSP USA company, is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer for our tk1sc offices which includes our California offices(Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside) 
The tk1sc Fire Sprinkler Designer is responsible for performing design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons, and similar technical work as required by assignment.  The Fire Sprinkler Designer takes project-level responsibility for developing fire suppression systems (Wet, Dry, Preaction, Fire Pumps, etc.). In addition, the Fire Sprinkler Designer has responsibility for project review and reporting. Working with some supervision, the Fire Sprinkler Designer is accountable for assisting in engineering deliverables working with fellow staff as well as engineering peers.
Your Impact

Intermediate knowledge of discipline/department for low-level complexity projects.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of NFPA, FM Global, Building and Fire Code Standards. 
Executes directions as provided by engineers and management but is comfortable in making engineering decisions on a discipline specific level.  
Has the ability to identify appropriate solutions based upon several different data.
Performs coordination at an Intermediate level by reviewing drawings supplied by vendors, other team engineers and architects while implementing design modifications as necessary.
Gathers appropriate resources in order to solve problems.
Assists engineers and management by providing input on discipline specific resource staffing allocations to meet business needs.
Believes in and champions the firms’ core values and inspires others to do the same.
Identifies and applies creative thinking and innovation that adds value at the discipline level.
Drives clients to make informed decisions on a discipline basis.
Effectively writes and verbally communicates concepts and ideas, both internally and externally.
Moderate experience with monitoring and successfully managing project costs versus budget for discipline while understanding the firm’s financial system.
Demonstrates the ability to react to client (internal/external) needs and expectations, while developing skills in proactive communication.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Technology, Drafting, Engineering or Architectural. 
5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience.
Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. 
Familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
Familiarity with fire and life safety process, systems, and concepts.
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit documentation and management as it applies to Fire Sprinkler Design.
Highly familiar with relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions. 
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, CAM).
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

Engineer in Training Certification.
Prior design experience.
NICET Level I or II in Water-Based Systems Layout
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
