This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Laboratory Technician for our Birmingham, AL office. This role is responsible for all aspects of work in the laboratory and will work closely with the Controls Operators and Engineering Team to conduct required sampling and testing at our client site located in Parrish, AL. Compliance to our Quality Management Plan and associated Inspection and Testing Plan is of critical importance in this position.
Your Impact

Collect, label, sort, handle, and/or test samples (Index testing e.g., Moisture content, particle size distribution, specific gravity, pH)
Conduct basic lab test independently or under some supervision 
Maintain detailed lab notes and ensure appropriate filing is completed 
Complete required work tasks, while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements 
Basic application and understanding of results is required to ensure the quality and accuracy of the end product 
Record test data, file and manage all project related laboratory notes, including some data entry and assistance with report preparation 
Ensure proper care, handling, storage and disposal of samples, products and chemicals in accordance with laboratory and industry control and practices 
Responsible for the use, care and calibration of laboratory equipment, consisting of: 
Ovens, sieve shaker, laser particle size analyzer, hydrometer, vacuum pumps, Marcy scale, vicat apparatus, slump kits, scales laboratory software, various small power tools 
Identify and report potential and existing site hazards, incidents, potential Fatal Risk Controls, and potential Serious Injury or Fatality (pSIF) 
Complete general laboratory cleaning and maintenance, as required 
Lifting, moving, and carrying up to 60 lbs. may be required 
May encounter periods of working in variable temperatures and conditions 
Required to work non-standard hours: 12-hour rotational shift work 6pm-6am; Schedule consists of 7-days a week, two weeks on followed by two weeks off.   

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

High School Diploma 
Ability to work independently 
Minimum five years of relevant work experience 
Basic Microsoft Excel and understanding of database software  
Communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications

Technical diploma or degree in related discipline   
Report writing skills #LI-AW2
