This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Transmission Line Engineer for our Rochester, New York office. The following locations will also be considered: Binghtamton, New York.  Be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 
Your Impact

Develop and/or review of design for high voltage overhead transmission lines 34kV to 500kV range.
Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members,
Select equipment and material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment, construction and installation work.
Work closely with peers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough transmission line design that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practices.
Maintain complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
Develop and maintain good working relationship with internal groups that support project such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project Management etc.
Develop and maintaining good working relationships with clients, material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects.
Provide construction support including resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, concepts, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design, and/or construction issues or opportunities. 
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate to high level risk mitigation activities.
Remain current in latest engineering techniques and practices.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Mentor and provide guidance to developing engineers within the department. 
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering
A minimum of 7+ years’ experience as a member of a project team in observing project schedules and budget constraints on diverse transmission and distribution (T&D) assignments that have included the following: transmission line design incorporating code requirements, transmission line routing, right of way analysis, sag and tension, structure spotting, plan and profile drawings, assembly drawings, bill of material and cost estimate development, preparation of specifications for procurement and construction of T&D lines.
Solid working knowledge of the Auto Cad and PLS-CADD suite of design software tools and familiar with the design of wood, steel, and concrete structures (poles and towers).
Current PE registration in the US and ability to register in the North-East US States
A working knowledge of STAAD PRO, Staad Foundation, FAD Tools (MFAD and HFAD) software or similar software is a plus
Knowledge of codes and standards such as IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, EPRI, ASCE, AISC, ACI, ANSI, ASTM, OSHA, NESC etc. related to T&D material, design and construction. 
Demonstrates competence and comprehensive knowledge on adjacent disciplines such as substation electrical and or civil/structural engineering.
Experience with electrical T&D facilities planning, design, and construction management.
Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of transmission and distribution facilities, applying applicable regulations and policies
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States, or be able to obtain work authorized status in the United States prior to the start of employment. This role is eligible for employment visa sponsorship for eligible and qualified candidates.

Preferred Qualifications:

EMF analysis experience is a plus.
HVDC transmission design experience is a plus.
HV and MV cable design experience is a plus.
Local candidates preferred. 
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
