WSP is currently seeking a Resident Engineer to lead our field team overseeing a major 3-mile road and streetscape project in the scenic, four-season Burlington, VT area, overlooking Lake Champlain.
This 4-5 year project, includes new full roadbox construction, or widening, traffic calming and traffic signalization upgrades to existing streets, along with major utility relocations and storm drainage, with pedestrian and biking enhancements and new street lighting. This urban project will require substantial maintenance of traffic and public outreach.
The Resident Engineer will oversee contract administration, construction inspection and public outreach staff, while reporting to WSP Project Manager, and the designated lead City Representative. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated construction supervision, inspection management, and contract administration experience from groundbreaking through final closeout, with the versatility to monitor various work elements simultaneously, helping drive successful project outcomes.
Manage, supervise and provide daily guidance to team of contract administration/construction inspection staff and various subconsultants.
Review and evaluate construction work for general conformance to plans and specifications, supported by the WSP Team. Investigation of construction deficiencies and offer recommended corrective action.
Review and assess progress of work for compliance with approved construction schedules.
Evaluate and advise the owner on possible ways to mitigate schedule impacts.
Manage and supervise the contract administration process; including tracking, and compilation of pay item quantities, contractor pay estimates, processing of technical submittals and shop drawings, preparation and evaluation of extra work order requests, and routine documentation required by federal and state agencies.
Interface with the owner, or their designees, state agencies, third-party utilities and other stakeholders, on a daily basis. Coordinate with the contractor and stakeholders to monitor and mitigate maintenance of traffic impacts, or other nuisance complaints, related to dust or noise.
Attend and chair weekly progress meetings, and prepare meeting minutes with Team support.
Who You Are
Bachelor of Science or Technology in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
7-10 years of construction management, supervision or resident engineering experience, including 2 years of staff supervision.
5 years of relevant roadway, streetscape and traffic signal experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with Site Manager, Field Manager, APPIA or Doc Express software.
Above average proficiency with MS WORD Suite.
Understanding of typical State DOT technical specifications and contracting administration and documentation standards, where federal and state monies are involved.
Any relevant NETTCP, ACI or NICET certifications.

Relocation assistance is available for this position. Weekly travel expenses are negotiable, in lieu of relocation if successful candidate resides in the Northeast US Region.
