This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Plumbing Engineer for our Richmond, VA office.  This position could also work out of WSP’s offices in Arlington, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.  Be involved in projects with our Properties & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. Your Impact

Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
Design of plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, medical gases, lab gases, etc.)
Design automatic control system and specifications
Calculation of preliminary utility loads for coordination.
Development of project specifications.
Survey and evaluation of existing conditions.
Performance of construction administration.
Participate in client meetings.
Select major equipment and schedule usage.
Perform piping load calculations and sizing.
Prepare reports and produce high-quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals.
Utilize advanced analytical and design techniques to solve technical problems.
Provide guidance to entry-level engineers.
Propose creative solutions to complex problems as part of team.
Attend team and or project meetings and interface with internal groups.
Communicate system design decisions to senior quality assurance staff to ensure proper application and adherence to project scope.
Participate in local professional organization (attend meetings/lectures.)
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience.
Engineer-in-Training Certification or Certified in Plumbing Design Certification.
Familiarity with plumbing and mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. 
Familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions. 
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Ability to organize and present design information to project staff. 
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit).
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.


Preferred Qualifications 

PE Licensure.
Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
