WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Supervising Traffic Engineer for our Boston, MA office. The candidate will be working on traffic engineering design, and multifaceted transportation projects involving civil and structures, and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work cooperatively with the NE district traffic practice leader to expand practice in Massachusetts
Function as a project manager and/or traffic task leader for design projects in Massachusetts
Collaborate with transportation service leaders to expand services and contribute to building a more robust and prominent traffic engineering practice in Massachusetts
Focus on MassDOT and other state agencies for managing client relationships, gathering and disseminating market/pursuit intelligence, and seek opportunities to build project backlog
Develop strategic alliances and project partners to secure new transportation work
Review and provide input to major transportation qualifications statement and proposals
Perform technical review for a wide range of transportation projects
Interface with staff from a range of other disciplines within WSP (Civil, Structural, Planning, Geotechnical, Environmental) to support a diverse range of projects
Perform a range of marketing and business development activities, including leading pursuits and proposals, and interfacing through professional organizations
Ability to manage staff to effectively deliver projects on deadlines, including managing multiple staff working on multiple projects
Ability to work in a corporate environment, communicating with a wide range of professional skill sets
Sound decision-making abilities, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice
Who You Are
B.S. degree in Civil or equivalent Transportation Engineering degree (M.S. degree desirable)
12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and traffic design and infrastructure.
Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
Demonstrated track record of working experience with MassDOT traffic and highway departments, district offices, and municipalities throughout the state
Strong knowledge of MassDOT design standards and requirements, Federal Highway Administration design guidelines including the MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, and NACTO Urban Streets
Proven knowledge of traffic engineering software, including HCM, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM/VISUM, and other traffic engineering modeling and analysis tools
Proven MassDOT experience designing traffic control devices including preparation of MPT plans for highway projects, and development of specifcations and estimates
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Excellent writing, verbal and presentation skills
Positive attitude and people skills that constitute a team player
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
17+ years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, including experience supervising staff and managing projects
Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.
