WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Water Resources Engineer to serve as an Assistant Project Manager for our West Palm Beach, Florida location. The Water Resources Engineer will perform or review of civil design tasks for river and watershed restoration projects including pump stations, control structures, and water quality facilities in Florida .
This position requires strong project management skills and an interest in technical advancement as well as management . This position is an opportunity to work on complex water resources projects driven by current regulatory and environmental issues. Candidates with certification in specialty areas or continuing education in advanced design or modeling methodologies should provide that information.
Provide guidance with data collection efforts for collecting, identifying, and compiling data from samples of water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys
Perform high-level professional water resources engineering work and conduct investigations, analysis, and inspections relating to water supply/quality/management, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, canal development, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, waste disposal, and pollution control and treatment activities to avert the contamination and degradation of water resources and determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits
Ensure that the planning and management of available water supply is adequately leveraged, treated, improved upon and remains safe for various end uses – recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially
Develop advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to reduce the volume and toxicity of pollutants, account for the negative environmental impact of industrial facilities, power plants, and transportation vehicles/systems, and allow for greater use of water resources
Manage a variety of water resources projects
Coordinating work activities by various technical staff and consultants including developing and implementing study and design standards for consultants to follow, leading progress meetings, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, tracking project schedules, and budgets
Demonstrate professional technical writing and verbal skills
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Who You Are
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline
7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering
Florida Professional Engineer License
Progressive experience in project management of water facilities, pumping stations, water storage and distribution facilities
Experienced running and/or reviewing Hydraulic and Hydrologic Modeling
Demonstrated project management experience including budget and schedule monitoring and control responsibilities
Experienced in preparing Design documents (Reports, Plans and Specifications)
Leader and team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective client presentations and written report preparation
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Knowledge of AutoCAD or CAD3D is a plus
Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement are highly desirable
