This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Substation Civil Engineer for our Rochester, New York office. Be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 
Your Impact

Develop design of structures for electrical facilities including substation and transmission/distribution line support structures, foundations, site development, control buildings, poles, towers and ancillary structures.
Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members,
Select equipment and material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment, construction and installation work.
Work closely with peers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough civil/structural design that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practices.
Maintain complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
Develop and maintain good working relationship with internal groups that support project such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project Management etc.
Develop and maintaining good working relationships with clients, material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects.
Provide construction support including resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, concepts, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design, and/or construction issues or opportunities. 
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation activities.
Remain current in latest civil/structural engineering techniques and practices.
Mentor and provide guidance to developing engineers within the department. 
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in civil and/or structural designs for electrical transmission and distribution facilities.
A working knowledge of STAAD PRO, Staad Foundation, FAD Tools (MFAD and HFAD), SAP 2000, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, RAM Connection, AutoCAD CIVIL 3D design software or similar software and a good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, MS Outlook.
Knowledge of codes and standards such as IEEE, ASCE, AISC, ACI, ANSI, ASTM, OSHA etc. related to transmission and distribution material, design and construction. 
Demonstrates competence and comprehensive knowledge on adjacent disciplines such as substation electrical engineering.
Experience with electrical transmission and distribution facilities planning, design, and construction management.
Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of transmission and distribution facilities, applying applicable regulations and policies
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications 

Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
Local candidates preferred.
