This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Summer 2022 Offshore Wind-Structural Engineering Intern for our Boston, MA office. The following locations will also be considered: Houston, TX. Be involved in projects with our Offshore Wind Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. If this sounds like a fit for you, we’d love to have that first discussion with you joining our team for your next internship.
This opportunity is available for a college student in good standing working towards a Structural / Ocean Engineering Degree within an accredited program. The candidate will gain experience in our Offshore Engineering group under direct supervision of the firm’s leading engineering professionals who are working on several offshore wind projects in the East Coast of the US.
Your Impact

Assist more experienced Engineers in broader Engineering activities.
Perform routine Engineering functions and Project Control and Administration functions.
Prepare sketches and drawings.
Use various types of CADD design software.
Conduct integrated analysis using SACS – OpenWindPower software under the guidance of senior engineers.
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Structural/Offshore Wind Engineering and become familiar with Revit.
Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Current standing as a Rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related Undergraduate or Graduate program.
Must be motivated and have a strong desire to learn engineering skills related to Offshore Wind projects.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must have completed basic foundational courses including: Intro to Engineering, AutoCAD, Engineering Drafting course, and Mechanics/Statics/Dynamics and Concrete/Steel, hydrodynamics and wind loading.
Prior related internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Current standing as a Rising Senior or Graduate student actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related Undergraduate or Graduate program.
Experience using Revit, AutoCAD and/or Microstation software.
Experience in finite element analysis.
This internship is open to candidates anywhere in the nation; candidates from New England region would be preferred. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
