This Opportunity

Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Our Transportation Team is seeking a Summer 2023 Structural Engineering Intern to work out of our Morristown, NJ office. This opportunity is available for an Undergraduate-level student in good standing working towards a degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering within an accredited program.
Your Impact

Assist more experienced Engineers in broader Engineering activities.
Perform basic calculations and routine Engineering functions.
Prepare sketches and drawings.
Assist with quantity and cost estimates.
Assist with field work, including bridge inspection.
Assist in preparing contract documents.
Document research and Field investigation.
Use various types of CADD design software.
Projects which are currently active include work on DOT bridges and roadways, airports and private site developments.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Undergraduate program.
Demonstrated interest in Structural Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
Comfortable presenting ideas, projects and solutions to clients and executives in a polished, professional manner.
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

Have completed basic introductory structural engineering analysis and design courses including Steel and Concrete Design.
Is motivated and has a strong desire to learn engineering skills related to civil and structural projects.
Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD and knowledge of reading drawings.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
