This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Traffic Engineer for our New York City, NY office.The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic team on the delivery of transportation projects and expanding our practice in the Northeast Region. Be involved in projects with our Traffic Engineering & ITS Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact

Function as Traffic Engineer for projects in and around New York City
Provide technical analysis for a wide range of transportation infrastructure and land development projects
Perform technical analysis using Synchro, VISSIM, AIMSUN, and other traffic engineering analysis software
Prepare signing and striping plans, signal timing plans, and construction staging/maintenance of traffic plans
Prepare Safety Studies and Parking Studies
ITS, Traffic Signals, and Communication Systems Design
Active Traffic Management Design
Preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates for Traffic Design Projects
Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning, Analysis, and Design
Development of Transportation Management Plans
Interface with staff from a range of other disciplines (civil, structural, planning) to support a diverse range of projects
Preparation of supporting written documentation, i.e. memoranda and reports, for studies and design, including those related to Environmental Impact Statements
Prepare Technical Reports and Presentations
Possibility of working on-site at New York City Department of Transportation up to 3 days per week at 55 Water Street
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

B.S. or B.E. degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study
3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in traffic engineering design and construction projects
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Demonstrated track record of working with state, municipal, and private clients
Ability to perform field work and data collection
Knowledge of traffic engineering tools, including Highway Capacity Manual/Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM/VISUM, AIMSUN, BPM, and/or other equivalent modeling and analysis
Knowledge of traffic control device design, including developing plans, specifications and estimates for construction projects
Working knowledge of appropriate Federal Highway Administration, CEQR/SEQR, NYCDOT, and other relevant guidelines, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the AASHTO Green Book, and the NACTO Urban Street Design Guide
Experience with Micro-Station and AutoCAD is desirable
Ability to establish partnerships with internal and external project management, client representatives, government agencies, and other organizations
Positive attitude and people skills that constitute a team player
Work cooperatively with staff to effectively deliver projects on schedule and within budget
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Transportation is desirable, but not required
Professional Engineering (PE) license in NY or ability to obtain within one year
Experience with VISSIM/VISUM, Synchro, and AutoCAD is desirable, but not required
Experience with local agencies such as MTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, PANY&NJ is desirable, but not required
