WSP is currently initiating a search for a Water Resource (Water/Wastewater) Engineer for our Baltimore, MD office. The ideal candidate will support assessment, design and plan production for water/wastewater and/or stormwater projects such as water/wastewater infrastructure design/assessment/rehabilitation, including conveyance, treatment, and facility design. This role may also provide support for drainage design of open and closed systems and hydrologic/hydraulic analysis. Be involved in projects with our Capital District Water Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Assist senior engineers in the development of a wide variety of water/wastewater and water resource design, assessment and study projects.
Perform water, wastewater and stormwater drainage, erosion sediment control design analyses including performing hydraulic calculations/modeling and determining basic design requirements for infrastructure design/upgrades, new development, environmental restoration, and transportation projects.
Prepare complete, accurate, and concise technical reports and documentation summarizing analysis and project requirements, including how design approach addresses project requirements, using electronic systems and software.
Utilize CADD to prepare construction drawings through a basic understanding of 3D design.
Utilize CADD and GIS tools in support of H&H analyses through a basic understanding of hydraulic modeling.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in water/wastewater engineering and/or water resources.
Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Experience and working knowledge of the following:
CADD production and civil design software (MicroStation Power InRoads/OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D);
Hydraulic Design for pipes and channels;
Design of water, wastewater, or stormwater pump station facilities; and
Water/wastewater treatment plant design and process modeling.
Knowledge of GIS software and applications (e.g., Arc GIS, etc.)
Self-starter with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to learn new modeling software and techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and comply with company policies.
Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, spreadsheets, and tools.
Ability to work independently with some supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Ability to travel to local project sites to support business needs.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Experience with Civil 3D pipe network and/or pressure network is a plus.
Master’s Degree in the above-referenced disciplines.
Maryland, Virginia, and/or D.C. Professional Engineering License or on track to take exam within a 1 year of hire. Maryland P.E. license is preferred.
Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement are highly desirable
