Agarabi Engineering, PLLC, is a woman-owned, NYS-licensed, Brooklyn-based mechanical engineering firm focused on the energy efficiency and decarbonization of buildings in the NYC Metro Area. We are seeking a mechanical engineer, energy engineer, or building system controls engineer with 4-6 years of experience for full time hire with immediate to 2-month-delayed start.

A passion for mitigating climate change and optimizing building performance is required.
The new hire will assist with or lead projects in the following services categories:
- Energy auditing, decarbonization road-mapping, and capital planning
- Analysis of utility bills and operations and maintenance logs, comparing them to those of similar buildings
- Visual inspection of building HVAC systems and enclosure
- Identification of possible building upgrades to reduce energy use and carbon emissions or improve facility operations and tenant health and safety.
- Development of cost/savings analysis and calculations to support recommendations
- Maintenance of excel for above information, maintenance of notes from site visits
- Drafting and editing technical and non-technical reports for client and stakeholder review
- Commissioning, including new construction and retro-commissioning, for energy code or LEED
- Review of construction documents and generation of recommendations to improve constructability, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and operations
- Review of submittals, code requirements, and development of testing plans
- Inspection of installations of building equipment
- Review and performance of terminal unit pre-functional and functional testing
- Documentation of review comments and inspection findings in issues logs and memos
- HVAC design, especially of all-electric systems, using CAD and/or Revit
- HVAC troubleshooting, O&M planning, and general energy efficiency consulting
- Local law and state or utility project compliance
This is a hybrid role requiring residency in the New York Metro Area. We expect 20% of time to be spent on-site during the summer, spring, and fall and 40% of time to be spent on-site during heating season. For sites that require PPE or COVID screening, employer will facilitate access to applicable testing or equipment. Remote or in-person work is left to employee discretion.

- Campus-wide heating system design for 28-acre State Park in Harlem
- Energy master plan for historic, landmarked school campus in Brooklyn Heights
- Integrated Physical Needs Assessment with 15-year capital plan for numerous HPD-supported buildings, including a supportive housing facility for those living with HIV/AIDS and a supportive housing facility for those formerly experiencing homelessness
- Troubleshooting, O&M planning, and heating system design for low-income housing cooperative portfolio in Manhattan
- IR scan and enclosure efficiency report for large museum on Upper West Side
Required knowledge, skills, and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field (or working towards with known graduation date prior to start date)
- At least one of the following: Master’s degree, PE, CEM, CEA, BCxP, CMVP, Passive House Consultant, LEED AP/O+M, or equivalent
- 4-6 years relevant work experience
- Familiarity with energy code and/or ASHRAE standards
- Demonstrable experience with support of at least 1 of the above service categories. Experience can be during a prior job, an internship, coursework/outside certifications.
- Strong proficiency in full MS Office suite, including Teams, Sharepoint, Onedrive, etc.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience with support of at least 2 of the above service categories
- Demonstrable project management skills, certifications, or experience
- At least one of the following: Master’s degree, PE, CEM, CEA, BCxP, CMVP, Passive House, LEED AP/O+M, EPA 608 Certification, RSOE, or equivalent
- Working proficiency in energy modeling
- Familiarity with LEED rating systems
- Familiarity with energy code and/or ASHRAE standards
- Familiarity with Facility Grid, Procore or other cloud-based software platforms
Benefits and Compensation:
We offer a full benefits package, including health benefits, 3-weeks PTO, unlimited sick leave, and travel/other relevant expense reimbursement.
Salary range will be $75,000-90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
